1.25.21

We have reserved a block of rooms at the TownePlace Suites Marriott.

This hotel is conveniently located less than 10 minutes from the Airport if you are flying in, less than 10 minutes from the Signature Club via New Circle Road, and less than 10 minutes from downtown Lexington if you're looking for non-RickandSarah related things to do. There are also a number of local restaurants within walking distance in the Beaumont area where the hotel is located as well as a grocery store in case a toothbrush didn't catch the flight. Please click the link below if you are interested, but of course you are more than welcome to look for your own accommodations as well!

1.21.21

We have reached out to many hotels around Lexington. We will putting a link to our room blocks once we have finalized it with the hotel. I would highly encourage you to look at Expedia(or similar sites) to find cheaper prices. There are also plenty of Air B&Bs in Lexington that are really cool. Prices seem to be elevated for April anticipating travelers for Keeneland horse racing season.

1.14.2021-- This week, we are reaching out to hotels to hold rooms for those of you who will be needing accomodations. We will then update the information listed below to let you know where we have rooms blocked and different features about the hotel and area of town so you have a couple of options!

Listed below are some of our suggestions for places to eat, sleep, and hang out while you visit Lexington!

If you have any issues finding a hotel, dont hesitate to reach out to us and we can try to help find a place for you to stay.

Hotel Suggestions:

Listed below are some suggestions of hotels we think you should look into and a little bit about the neighborhoods their in. The prices and convenience vary, so we've tried to explain a little bit about why we would suggest each one of that's where you decided to stay. We suggest you check out each website and read any requisite reviews to make sure its the place you want to stay before booking! =)

  • Woodsprings Suites off Richmond Rd and New Circle: https://www.woodspring.com/extended-stay-hotels/locations/kentucky/lexington/woodspring-suites-lexington
    • The benefit of staying here is that it seems like a solid middle ground among "stuff to do" (downtown-ish), The Airport (likely integral to your trip), and the Wedding Venue (off Tates Creek Road).
    • Basically you would just take Versailles Rd to New Circle to your hotel once you land. You could also take Richmond Road straight from your hotel to fun schtuff downtown, and take New Circle straight to Tates Creek Rd and the venue. So if you really value a centralized location but don't mind a little driving between locales this may be your bet.
    • It also seems relatively affordable compared to other places when I checked it out for that weekend on Priceline.
  • Comfort Suites in Beaumont https://www.priceline.com/hotel-deals/h51416/US/Kentucky/Lexington/Comfort-Suites-Lexington.html
    • This place is incredibly close to the airport and easy to get into and out of in that regard. If you have an early or late flight this might be the way to go.
    • The downside is you're relatively far from downtown (but you can just take Harrodsburg Rd straight in so its not that bad. Maybe 10 minutes) and from the venue (again not that bad though. You just hop on New Circle and ride it until Tates Creek. Probably less than 10 minutes). If you're ridehailing it might be more like $15 if that's any kind of deterent?
    • Also, while its kindof far from a lot of the "to do" stuff, Beaumont (where the hotel is located) actually has a couple awesome places to go. Sahara Mediterranean is spectacular, Masala has a great Indian Buffet, and Metropolitan Coffee and Donuts has... well... coffee and donuts... but they're great! And all 3 would be walking distance from your hotel (1 - 2 minutes by foot).
  • Springhill Suites by Marriott near Campus https://www.priceline.com/hotel-deals/h1256805/US/Kentucky/Lexington/SpringHill-Suites-by-Marriott-Lexington-Near-The-University-Of-Kentucky.html
    • Ok so if you're the kind of person who wants familiarity and has some positive history with Marriott hotel's this might be your jam. Its pretty close to both Campus and Downtown so ridehailing would be super easy and relatively cheap. You'd be set for nightlife. Its relatively far from the venue (probably take you 10 - 15 minutes from the hotel) but Lexington isn't that big. It also wouldn't be the end of the world from the airport but it would probably take you 20 minutes.

More interested in trying out an AirBnB for your stay? Here are some neighborhoods we would suggest looking into on your search!

  • Downtown to North Lime
    • You'd be near Transylvannia University's campus and could probably walk to anything you wanted to do downtown. It would be a bit of a haul from the airport and to the venue, but certainly not the end of the world.
  • Chevy Chase
    • You'd be super close to campus and there would be plenty of good food and stuff to do around. Again, its not close to the airport, but it would be an incredibly easy straight shot down Tates Creek Rd from your AirBnB to the venue.

Oh hello again!

I'm so glad you've stumbled upon our little Lexington trip planner!

Sarah and I have both found some spectacular little nooks and crannies in Lexington that we absolutely adore over the years. We thought it would be great if we could share some of these spots, and encourage you all to visit them if you were looking for local recommendations during your trip! So if you're looking for food or somewhere to hang out, and don't know where to start please do give this a glance!

A Curated Guide to Lexington:

Coffee Houses to Start the Day Right:

  • A Cup of Commonwealth Downtown: http://acupofcommonwealth.com/    World's friendliest baristas? Check. Sustainability focused? Check. Spectacularly delicious coffee? A Thousand Times Check. If you're looking for coffee and someone to put a smile on your face look no further. *Bonus points if you walk your coffee across the street to Thoroughbred Park where Sarah and Rick got engaged!
  • Lussi Brown Coffee Bar Downtown: https://www.lussibrowncoffee.com/   Are you the kind of jaded person who thinks they drink so much coffee that caffeine no longer effects them? Head to Lussi Brown and ask if they have the Ethiopian Cold Brew. That stuff will have you ready and willing to jog the entirety of Red River Gorge for the duration of your stay.
  • North Lime Coffee and Donuts off West Loudon or Clays Mill Road: https://www.northlime.net/    Who would want coffee without Donuts? Cut out the middle man and catch 2 birds with 1 stone at North Lime!

Brunch Spots:

  • Zim's Cafe in Downtown Lexington: https://www.zimscafe.com/  This place just opened up in the newly renovated old courthouse here in town. They serve all sorts of local farm to table southern delights, that Sarah and I both love! (try the Chess Pie!)
  • Doodles in North Limestone: https://www.doodleslex.com/  Locally sourced and delicious to the core! If you have any interest in beignets, do I have the place for you friend...
  • Wild Eggs in Palomar: https://wildeggs.com/menu/  Not interested in driving downtown? Feel free to indulge upon some bourgie egg-based shenanigans or a breakfast burrito (chorizo? yes thank you.) for your morning fair!

Lunch Spots:

  • Bourbon & Toulouse in Chevy Chase: http://www.ilovecajun.com/  Cajun food? Yes please. You can't go wrong with Chicken Etouffée and some extra bread, and Sarah is equally fond of the award winning white chili! Oh... and its dirt cheap... a college kid's dream!
  • Athenian Grill in Chevy Chase: http://atheniangrill.com/ There's multiple locations all over town, but if you love a gyro and dolmas as much as I do, this place is surely your jam no matter which location you end up at.
  • Joella's Hot Chicken in Chevy Chase: https://joellas.com/Couldn't finish the list go without a fried chicken place on the list, so here you go! (Bonus points for cane sugar soda and local breweries on tap at the Chevy Chase location!) My only regret is that they got rid of the broccoli slaw. RIP.

Dinner Spots:

  • Marrikas German Restaurant and Bier Stube in Southland: http://marikkaslex.com/ Are you, like Rick, inexplicably fond of spätzle, jägerschnitzle, and würst of all varieties? Then oh... oh... my friend... you are home. Welcome.
  • Blue Door Smokehouse off Walton Avenue: http://bluedoorsmokehouse.com/Home_Page.html Is smoked meat more your forte? Do you hear the siren's call of vineagar based sauces? Never fear friend. Lexington has you covered. Try the brisket, or the ribs if they aren't sold out yet. You'll surely be pleased!
  • Buddha Lounge Downtown: https://www.buddhaloungeky.com/ You tryna get bourgie without breakin any banks? How about some Asian Fusion shenanigans downtown? Korean Tacos? Sure. Sushi? Done. Tapas? I mean, thats unexpected but ya whatever!
  • Ramsey's Diners (Tates Creek, Nicholasville Rd, Harrodsburg Rd): http://ramseysdiners.com/ If you want the KY version of Southern food while you're down here look for one of Ramsey's 3 locations. They're an oldschool Lexington originated restaurant where you can help yourself to a hot brown (not my cup of tea, but Sarah swear's by it) and don't leave until you help yourself to a "Missy's Pies" dessert!
  • Shakespeare and Co Downtown: https://www.facebook.com/shakespeareusa/ Super cool Victorian / Alice in Wonderland feel inside going on inside and a neat place for brunch or dinner alike!

Sweet Treats? Yaaaaas:

  • Spalding's Bakery off Winchester Road: https://spaldingsbakery.com/ Family owned and operated since the daggone Great Depression. Best donuts in town. Both our town and your town. Seriously. My town's donut shop could EASILY beat up your town's donut shop's dad or however that goes. Regardless, show up early because they're sold out and closed every day by noon! *Bonus points, Sarah and Rick got Spalding's for breakfast before getting engaged!
  • European Delights in Brannon Crossing: http://europeandelightsbakery.com/ Realtalk fam this place is the bomb dot com. The family that owns this place immigrated here from Ukraine where I can only assume everyone is a Jacques Torres caliber pastry chef judging by how many times we've ended up here after a great meal. It's just barely across the border into Jessamine County but I promise it's worth it.

Entertainment:

Day Trips:

  • Woodford Reserve Distillery outside Versailles, KY: https://www.woodfordreserve.com/distillery/tours/ Trying to get a taste of Kentucky with some scenery to boot? Try driving out to Woodford County and touring the Woodford Reserve Distillery. Give yourself a trip through Bluegrass Horse Country and soak up some Kentucky history while you're at it.
  • Keeneland to watch the beautiful thoroughbred horses race.

Night Life:

  • Kentucky Native Beer Garden off Maxwell: https://www.michlers.com/pages/cafe  Looking for a place to enjoy a warm spring evening? Check out Kentucky Native Cafe and Beer Garden just behind Micheler's Greenhouse. Snack on some fancy vegan fare and try the Mint Lemonade Radler!
  • West Sixth Street: Not exclusively a night life place, but if you're craving fried fish for whatever reason give Smithtown Seafood and West Sixth Brewery a visit.  After all, who doesn't like hushpuppies?
  • The Distillery District: If you've only got one night, and want to make it worth your while, swing by Lexington's burgeoning millennial playground for a one stop shop to all your trendy entertainment needs! Don't forget to head across the train tracks to Sarah and Rick's favorite The Burl Arcade for some old school arcade cabinet fun! If that isn't your thing, however, there's also Crank and Boom, Lexington's own homemade ice cream parlor (the Bourbon and Honey and Blackberry Buttermilk come highly recommended). Feeling restless after a long flight? Why not work out some of that tension at Battle Axes KY for some new age, hatchet related bowling. Feeling peckish? No worries. Goodfella's Pizzeria is just around the corner for some comically large New York Style pizza and you can wash it down at Ethereal Brewing Co. just next door.
  • Lexington Night Market in the North Lime District: http://www.nolicdc.org/the-night-market If you like street fairs try the Night Market! You can get some food truck food, shop for some local kitsch at KY for KY, and spend some time outside!
